Weekend at Gwysol's
Death and Dying
Death occurs when a player reaches a negative number equal to their constitution score plus character level. For example, a second level character with a constitution of 16 may drop as low as negative 18 before dying.
A character falling below zero hit points is considered dying. A dying character can be stabilized by another via skills and magic. Despite being unconscious, a character will attempt to stabilize themselves by making a Constitution saving throw. Three successful saving throws will result in stabilization. A failed saving throw will result in 1d6 damage. Successful saving throws do not have to be consecutive.
For example, a second level character with a constitution of 16 is hit and their hit points drop to negative 2. On their next turn, the dying character attempts to stabilize and succeeds. On their turn in the following (second) round they make a second attempt to stabilize and succeeds. On their turn in the following (third) round, they make a second attempt to stabilize and fail taking 4 damage on a 1d6 roll and their hit points lower to negative 6. On the fourth round, the dying character makes another stabilization attempt and succeeds. The character is now stabilized and will remain at negative 6 hit points until they heal or they are healed by another.
